Music at Moore

J.T. Moore has award-winning band and string programs. Students are welcome to join as early as 6th grade and participate in a variety of performances, ensembles and clubs. Sixth graders are exposed to the available instruments early in the year so that they can determine what is a good “fit” for them.

All incoming sixth grade students are enrolled in the related arts rotation of classes which includes Visual Arts, Health Education, and Physical Education. Alternatively, students can enroll in Band or Strings classes which then take the place of the related arts rotation.

Our school band director is Shane Kimbro. Mr. Kimbro is a native Nashvillian and a product of Metro schools. He went on to major in music education at Middle Tennessee State University. After graduation he taught at three schools a day for four years as the band director for Hattie Cotton Elementary, East Middle, and Johnson Middle in his first two years and Dalewood Middle in his last two years. He then transferred to Goodlettsville Middle School, where he taught for seven years before coming to J.T. Moore.

Our school’s strings director is David Henry. Mr. Henry began in the J.T. Moore strings program in 2016, after two years teaching eighth grade mathematics. Mr. Henry is originally from Georgia but has been a fixture in Nashville for many years following his opening of True Tone Recording in 12 South. He has a background playing a plethora of instruments, from horns to guitar to ukulele to cello. His band, Brother Henry, has recorded five albums and played with the likes of Def Leppard, Taylor Swift, Steve Earle, Ben Folds, Guster, Cowboy Junkies, Indigo Girls, Jars of Clay, Leeland, Tim McGraw, Relient K, REM, and Widespread Panic.
